A Preview of MCP

With recent versions of Xcode, Apple introduced the ability for Agents to talk to and control Xcode via Model Context Protocol (MCP). This opened up the ability for controling aspects of Xcode by other apps that talk MCP. One of these capabilities is the ability to generate SwiftUI previews and render them to an output file. The talk will look at the process of building a mac app that talks MCP to Xcode and using it to fetch SwiftUI Previews that belong to a project. As well as covering just what MCP is and how it gets exposed by Xcode there will be segues into areas such as XPC for reliable communication and how to structure an app so that it remains elegible for distribution on the mac app store.

About the presenter

Often known for her ramblings about all things HealthKit and Foundation Models, Amy is also well versed in low level communication and how making apps which talk to others improves her life as an indie developer.
